June 16th 2013--Father's Day! - Rio Rancho, NM

Today was father's day. Yesterday, Saturday, that is, while Dad was at work, the family was busy with preparations for today's celebrations. Seriah helped all the little kids make a banner with hand prints and footprints (using washable paint, of course!) declaring: HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! Seriah also baked and decorated a chocolate cake (recipe to follow) with peanut butter frosting--Dad's favorite. Then she made little coffee mugs with fondant and put them on the cake around the words "Happy Father's Day" spelled out in coffee beans.(Can you tell what Dad's favorite thing is?) We had fun eating it that night for dessert after a barbecue supper.

Here's a close up of the fondant replica of Dad's favorite travel mug.

June 4th 2013 - Rio Rancho, NM

Today Seriah and I went to the "Recycled book crafts" teen program at the Loma Colorado Public Library here in RR. The crafts were Book Hedgehogs and Roadmap flowers. It was fun, but Seriah didn't know anyone there to talk to. Oh well, more time to read when she's done! She currently just finished the Dragons in our Midst series (Bryan Davis), the Saige books from American Girl (Jessie Haas), Trouble at Tempetill and Castaways in Lilliput (Both by Henry Winterfield) and has been re-reading several of the Sherlock Holmes stories (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). She has just started on The Oracles of Fire series (Bryan Davis).

June 1st 2013 - Rio Rancho, NM

Today Seriah made a cake for Grant's 11th birthday. I'd like to say I helped but . . . I was a little too busy (cough) guarding the frosting bowl.

It is the scene in the end of the third movie where Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin/Darth Vader are fighting on Mustafar, the lava planet.
